The recent Expert Summit and Patient Conference brought together patients, carers, and medical professionals in a spirit of unity and support.
Speakers gathered in Melbourne to share insights on lysosomal diseases with a focus on genomics, rare disease diagnosis, and management.
The Expert Summit attracted medical professionals from around the globe. They engaged deeply with the latest research findings, asked critical questions, and brainstormed ways to advance research. Strong connections were forged, inspiring attendees to continue their vital work for the rare disease community.
In the Patient Conference, groups from across Australia came together to explore patient-centred topics. Attendees learned about the Life Saving Drugs Program and PBAC, the significance of clinical trials, and emerging treatments for unmet needs. Sessions also covered biomarkers, bone density impacts, and mental health, and we heard personal stories from three individuals navigating life with a rare disease.
During breaks, patients and professionals mingled, with doctors and patients enjoying a rare opportunity to connect outside the clinical environment.
On Saturday evening, we held a Celebration Dinner, where our guest of honour, Margaret Davies, cut a cake commemorating the 30th anniversary of the first Fabry patient gathering.
Overall, it was a successful Summit and Conference, with plans already underway for next year’s event.
